Sad Red Rocks Out at the Heavenly Rock Festival
Sad Red has never cared much for convention. So it comes as little surprise they have been invited back to the Heavenly Rock Festival this month in New York City, hosted
by Fontana’s. Their dark melodies and innovative rhythmic movements captivated the inebriated audiences of the festival yet again.
Made up of three boys from Northern California (Jake, Jon and James) and one from Boston (Josh), this band converged in New York to piss on some territory and set a few things straight. Jake (Bloomfield-Misrach) writes the raw material and has been exploring the alimentary canals of music for a long time. Taking influence from Italo Calvino, The Mars Volta, John Adams, Jorge Luis Borges and a zillion others, this band breeds outside the mainstream.
Jake brings in the preliminary sketches but it is the rest of the group that makes it sound like Sad Red. James (Windsor-Wells) was the first to team up with Jake. They met after hours in the loft at the school to jam.
A few years later they reunited and realized that within each was a desire to destroy the bad music in the world, and replace it with good. Josh (Myers) met up with Jake and James one dark and cloudy night under the noses of school authorities in the lofts of their musical institution. After an hour of thrashing about at extraordinary volumes Jake turned to Josh and said “I love the way you do that one thing.” Then Josh said, “Wow, no one ever wanted me to do that thing because it makes these other things happen.” Then Jake said, “No way. I think it’s awesome.” Then Josh replied, “O.K. Sweet.” And it was settled: they were a band.
